German Wirehaired Pointers
Our German Wirehaired Pointers are truly versatile dogs. We do everything with them from upland game birds, waterfowl, hunting furred animals and blood tracking. They are your do it all breed. The pups we have been producing have very high levels of prey drive and benefit from early bird exposure to develop that natural point. These dogs love to retrieve and carry things in their mouths. They make excellent waterfowl dogs. Their cold tolerance I would say is about your average lab as far as late season waterfowling goes. Most of my dogs tend to have a tight dense coat on the body. I don’t care for the overly shaggy coats as the tight coats are almost maintenance free and the only area that tends to pick up burrs would be the beard. I breed my dogs through NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) but all of my wirehairs are out of the German registered Drahthaar system. Because of this they have a very strong fur drive and are very sharp on furred animals. Generally if they grow up with a cat in the house they will be fine with that cat, but when it comes to outdoor cats, racoons, or even coyotes it can be game on. In Germany these dogs are bred for downed game recovery and they excel at using their nose to track, locate and retrieve animals as large as our eastern coyotes. In the home our dogs are super affectionate and great with our kids. They have a good off switch in the home, but these dogs need a job and mental stimulation if you want them to reach their full potential.
To reserve a puppy out of an upcoming litter there is a $300 non refundable deposit. This is on a first come first serve basis. When you reserve a pup we discuss your goals and living situation and I take all of that into consideration along with puppy temperament when placing the puppy with you. Most pups are Liver Roan, but pups sired by Gambler will be Liver Roan or Black Roan. I make reservations for sex, but not color as I can’t guarantee coloration. All pups go through early a bio sensory program in their first couple weeks of life. We begin early socialization development with new sites, sounds, people and children, and various dogs. Puppies will have been wormed and go home between 8 and 10 weeks old. They will also have their first vet visit and round of vaccinations. If you are interested in a puppy from us please fill out the puppy inquiry form at the bottom of the page.
Some people may want a new dog, but don’t necessarily have the time to raise a new pup properly. In this case I do started pups up to generally 6 months old, depending on time of year. These started dogs will have been through obedience, house training, along with Bird and Gun Intro. If you are interested in a started puppy please contact me for pricing.
